Wedding Flowers: tips to save

We're absolute lovers of creating gorgeous wedding floral arrangements and believe these are what truly bring the look and feel of your wedding to life. When we design a wedding we carefully select all the hire items, decor and choose the foliage and flower varieties in a mixture of colours and textures to bring all the elements of the styling together.

Arrangements we often create for weddings include florals on ceremony arches or backdrops, to bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, mens buttonholes, centrepiece arrangements to show-stopping suspended floral arrangements. Bar arrangements to tumbling florals on welcome boards and seating plans, to personalised rose petal cones, flower-crowns, flower-girl wands, urns, hanging lanterns...and oh so much more!

We're all about taking inspiration from our couples, talking through all the options including suggesting things they may not have thought of, then ensuring everything is a reflection of what they absolutely love. For the wedding below at Terrace Croft in Ashburton, the bride wanted lush, rich colours and a modern feel and we loved bringing all this together using such a stunning colour palette.

When we're putting together a quote for a wedding, we understand it's a big spend. So we're always conscious about discovering what your key priorities are, providing advice and guidance about how to get the 'best bang for your buck' suggesting ways you can save and ensuring you're not wasting your money on things that really aren't needed.

RE-PURPOSING CEREMONY FLORALS

A suggestion we'll always make to our couples is how we can re-purpose the florals from your ceremony. Now this isn't for everyone and also depends on factors such as:

- the style of arrangements

- the location of your wedding ceremony

- whether we're onsite to move and freshen them up, or if you can allocate someone to do this.

Depending on the style of arrangements we often suggest re-purposing your ceremony florals, especially if we're also Planning or Co-ordinating your Wedding Day, as this is when we're onsite managing the flow of your day. Or depending on the location of your wedding ceremony for an additional fee it's cost effective for us to return to move and freshen up the florals.

When considering re-purposing arrangements, keep in mind floral arrangements can't usually simply be moved from one location to the next. They've likely been in the sun for an hour or more so they will need to be freshened up and quickly adjusted to suit the new location. For example the ground florals in the ceremony below were moved, freshened up and quickly adjusted to create a gorgeous feature across the front of the head table.

MOVING YOUR ARCH

Another way to re-purpose florals is to have your ceremony arch or backdrop moved into your venue, and placed behind your head table. Again this will depend on the size of the backdrop, the way the florals are attached and whether you have someone who can do this for you. Below is an example of a backdrop with florals at Pemberton Garden that was moved inside to behind the Head Table

ARTIFICIAL FLORALS

Another way we'll often help clients save is suggesting incorporating some artificial florals. Our artificial florals are high quality and absolutely stunning. All the arrangements we've custom made are in the same style as we would create fresh, so you can achieve a similar look for far less. Our greenery garlands in the centre of guest tables look stunning woven with seed lights, or adding a small vase of fresh florals helps to enhance and tie together the styling. Our suspended hoops and floral features, with glass orbs and tea-lights create a gorgeous ambience.

TAKING YOUR FLORALS

You've paid for all your floral arrangements so you are more than welcome to take them after the wedding is finished, or gift them to guests. We let our couples know how to remove them from vessels or which arrangements can be taken. Our couples often take them and use them at the party the next day. Depending on the venue and when we're packing down, we'll sometimes collect all the flowers from large arrangements, re-cut the stems and put them aside for our couples to enjoy. As long as water is added they can be enjoyed for another few days after the wedding.

TURN YOUR BRIDAL BOUQUET INTO A MEMENTO

Some of our brides, or often the bridesmaids organise preserving the bridal bouquet as a gift. There are some amazing ideas to turn your beautiful bouquet into a beautiful memento. The ideas I've seen that are stunning, are:

- encased in a glass dome

- pressed and framed

- resin blocks or love letters

If you're interested in preserving your bridal bouquet, here are some companies who offer this in New Zealand:

I hope this helps give you some ideas about ways you can save on your wedding flowers. All the images in this blog are weddings we've designed and we specialise in creating weddings that are designed to suit each couple. So if you'd love our help to create a beautiful wedding and stunning wedding flowers get in touch as I’d love to hear from you.
